Welcome to Takeno Beach

the perfect place for your Japan beach holiday

A hidden gem along the northern coast of Hyogo prefecture. This beautiful beach is among the best and ranked in the top 100. Its crystal-clear waters have been given top marks by Japan's Ministry of Environment and clean soft sandy beaches make it all the better. Located on the JR line it is easy to get to from Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe and Himeji taking an average of 3hours.

SANDY BEACHES

Relax on the clean and soft white sand

Soft white sand stretches 1km along crystal-clear blue waters. A perfect destination for families and those seeking sun, beaches and relaxation. Takeno beach is a popular destination especially during Japan's beach season from June to August when the water is warmest for swimming, although you can enjoy the beach from late May to early or mid September when the strong winter winds start to die down. During this time the beach is crowd free and there's plenty of room to stretch out with a nice book, have a picnic on the beach or just sit and relax while listening to the waves crash against the shore.
The water is clear and shallow with almost no sudden drop offs making it great for children and wading. Tetrapods are set out several meters from the shore to help control waves and debris. The beach is of fine sand and is combed and cleaned just before the opening of the official swim season around June. During the summer months the surrounding mountains are a lush green, then turn colors of orange and red in fall. In the winter, mostly late January to mid February the area will be blanketed in white during heavy snow fall. Around the start of April poofs of pink from the wild cherry blossom trees pop up around the mountains and roads. Although the beach is open year round there are no lifesaving procedures in place during the off-season and for your own safety you should not enter the waters during unsafe conditions. The cleanliness of this beach is also one of its charm points, we ask that you take your garbage home with you and leave your area as you found it.

BEAUTIFUL VIEWS

Spectacular views from the coastal road

The geological formations and landscape of the land is just as stunning as the beaches. Takeno is part of the San'in Geological Park and contains several natural monuments. Take a ride along the coastal road and enjoy the panoramic views over the sea of Japan from several vantage points. Visitors can also rent a bicycle from the information center in Takeno or Kinosaki Onsen and take a more scenic route along the coast and through the town.
Hike the Nekozaki Peninsula that juts out into the Sea of Japan from Takeno Beach. The hike takes an hour one way on average and the path is unpathed and steep in some places, but the view from highest point over the town and at the end are well worth it. At night you can continue to relax on the beach and get front row views of beautifully colored sunsets. As the sun sets you might be able to see lights flicker to life on the horizon, these are the night fishing boats catching local delicousies like squid and other seafood depending on the season.
